...Buckinghamshire!

This is where we have ended up! No - the UK has not introduced conscription and this is NOT an army barracks! Actually, this is an arial picture of the Wycliffe Centre, just west of High Wycombe. We arrived on Sunday afternoon (5th August) to start 5 months of training before heading out to Tanzania in the new year. Although the site is a little dated (some lovely 1970s concrete buildings!) it is in the beautiful surroundings of the Chiltern hills and so that helps to make up for it! On Monday we started the European Training Programme and have this week been given an introduction to (or for Liz a refresher of!) linguistics, communication and cross cultural issues. There's a lot crammed in so the sessions are pretty intense but very interesting. The first 2 weeks of the training is with 25 other people from all over the world including Romania, Holland, Canada, Madagascar and Malaysia! The cross cultural training really does start here! It's been great fun getting to know others with a similar goal (there are even several others going to different places in Tanzania) though it has been quite an adjustment from life in Sheffield. We will write more soon, and add some photos of our life here, but for now we have more studies to get back to...! Hmm, morphophonemics...!
